Cat Cafe
The Cat Café Program is based on the fundamental belief that feral or stray cats have as much right to live as any other creature.
The Cat Cafe Program exists for the purpose of decreasing the number of cats in the wild.
In the one year that this program has been in existence, it has been directly responsible for the prevention of the births of hundreds of cats in St. Thomas.
The goal of the Cat Cafe Program is to drastically reduce the number of animals impounded and killed in our shelter over the next few years. The program works with resorts, restaurants, condominium associations, businesses and individuals to implement and teach long-term management of feral cat colonies.
Volunteers, TNR ( trap, neuter and return) the feral cats. TNR is the humane method of controlling the overpopulation. The cats are identified by eartipping ( removal of ½ inch of the left ear while the cat is anesthetized for spaying or neutering.) Eartipping is the universal symbol of and only proven way to permanently identify a feral cat who’s been evaluated, vaccinated and sterilized.) It ensures that a feral cat won’t undergo unnecessary repeat trapping and surgery.
When feral cats are trapped, neutered and released back to their original locations, their numbers can be controlled. The daily feeding and monitoring by volunteers improves the quality of life for feral cats resulting in a vast decrease in population growth.
